Nokia and Swisscom Broadcast have partnered to create Switzerland’s largest drones-as-a-service network, featuring 300 drone-in-a-box units. This initiative aims to bolster the countryโ€™s public safety efforts and support Industry 4.0, showcasing Nokiaโ€™s role in advancing digital infrastructure. These drones are designed to enhance the safety of first responders, optimize resource management, and improve situational awareness during emergencies by gathering crucial information in the initial moments. Nokiaโ€™s drone-in-a-box system includes a comprehensive package of hardware, software, and service components, and it integrates seamlessly with third-party systems for traffic monitoring, video management, and industrial inspections.

The nationwide network will be accessible to Swiss public safety agencies, which can request drone flights from Swisscom Broadcast, similar to booking a ride-sharing service. This partnership also aims to advance industrial applications, improve drone automation, and expand the use of 3GPP technologies for drone operations in Switzerland. Swisscom Broadcast CEO Dominik Mรผller emphasized the importance of this collaboration in accelerating the market introduction of their drones-as-a-service offering, integrating their existing tools with Nokia’s industrial-grade hardware and open software architecture. Nokiaโ€™s president of cloud and network services, Raghav Sahgal, expressed pride in this partnership, highlighting how the Nokia Drone Networks solution, powered by their mission-critical industrial edge technology, will provide Swiss enterprises with a superior drones-as-a-service offering to enhance both worker and public safety.
